Proper usage of five senses

Proper usage of five senses

The balanced feeling of peace, the feeling that is conducive to both the consciousness and the body, is real happiness.

Food, work, sleep, sex and thought-force must be utilised in a balanced and proper manner. None of these five can be ignored. They should not be totally rejected or lowered to a minimal extent or consume in high amount or enjoy it in a controversial manner. Neither should they be consumed in excess nor enjoyed inappropriately. Food, work, sleep, sex and thought-force - the five should be dealt with in a moderated manner, in a state of awareness. As a result, miseries can be prevented from arising. The act of reducing the miseries which arise naturally, is the feeling of Happiness. In the pursuit of happiness, when these are consumed excessively, the life-force gets spent in excess and miseries arise and multiply as a result. The health of the five sensory organs and the general health of the body degrades.

Moreover, man should realise the potential of his life-force and protect and take care of it with respect. Life-force is the great treasure to man. Life-force undergoes self-transformation as pressure, sound, light, taste, smell and gets spent during the activities of the five senses and the various organs in the body. It is essential to protect the life-force from being spent excessively. If the life-force gets spent excessively through the five senses, (1) The five sensory organs will be affected (2) The amount and density of the life-force in the body diminishes, affecting the health of both the body and the mind.

The ancient Tamil poet 'Thiruvalluvar' describes the importance of this as

"The world is for those who know the properties of the five transformations of taste, light, pressure, sound and smell"

Moderating the functioning of the five sensory organs with a state of awareness we can prevent the miseries from arising; and also enjoy constant happiness. By following such disciplined way of life, we can live a healthy, happy and peaceful life; we can also help others to lead a prosperous life.
